I finally had the personel. They were all back from vacation etc. Then one singer says she is too busy. Thats ok, I still have two more. Next singer (the really good one) texts us that he cannot continue due to personal problems. Then bass player sez, ok this is probably a good time to check into rehab.

Yikes! Im still hopefull I can wait it out or find others to fill the spots. Its hard here in Nor Cal. There is a lack of diversity that translates directly to lack of funk musicians.

So, I say to myself, "Amstratnut, why dont you get on craigslist and see if you can find some other musicians". So I do and lo and behold, there is a local popular original funk band looking to replace their guitar player.

So Im now in possession of some of their tunes and will audition soon.

I still want to do the cover thing but, this may scratch the funk itch for me. What you guys think?

Well I enjoyed it! Played it all the way through a couple of times!
The drummer reminds me (looks-wise and stellar drumming) of my mate Wayne who was in a few of my bands.
Will this be the band you are joining?

I got a pm from stratobiker, all the way from France. He noticed, as did I, that they speed up a bunch in that video.

So, they have a different drummer now and I will pay close attention to the deets. I wanna play funk but, Im picky. Ive been sorry when I ignored my insticts.

    See post #6 :).

Not that I've been on a lot of auditions, but yeah, you are there checking them out as much as they are checking you out. Better to avoid a potentially bad situation than have to remove yourself from one later on.

UPDATE (As if you hang on my every whim)

After reviewing the songs they sent, I decided not to audition. They sped up on the songs they sent me and I did not think the songs were that strong.

Stellar bass playing but after that it seemed to just be weak. It seemed like the songs were half baked. The main harmony instrument is guitar. Thats fine but, I tend to enjoy interacting with keyboard or another guitar for a full sound, rather than trying to provide all the harmonic content myself. Or horns.

    The vocals were just ok.

I think @stratobiker is right and that their short comings would bug me.

Im not the worlds greatest guitar player but I dont want to join a project thats a project.

Ive contacted the singer from an old band. She could do funk and soul and does great harmonies too. She doesnt ever struggle with harmonies, which is a big deal to me.

So I hope she expresses interest.

    Thats all for now.

It's cool to have options. Best to not even go there if you have reservations ahead of time. Hope the current lead you are pursuing pans out.

That was a tough decision to make.....at least the band you didn't audition for prompted you to take other action....which is good. Please keep us posted. :)

Well, thats out. Existing singer thinks proposed new singer wont work.

If she had just said no, that would have been fine but, she iffered to bow out. So now Im wondering if she even wants to do this. If she backs out, the drummer is out, as they are married.

    Good times!

As Donald Trump would say, all options are on the table.

My "vision" is to have a dance band where people will not be able to sit still.

I just have to be patient, as there are not a ton of disco playing musicians around here.
