I bought an 80's MIJ body and a 2009 Squier CV Jazz neck from another board because I wanted that P Bass sound with the Jazz feel. So I just got it back yesterday from getting it set up / intonation set etc. I have to say I can't be happier with it so far! I haven't plugged it into my amp yet, but it sounded nice and punchy on an amp at the store when I picked it up! Happy Plucking!

I got very fortunate. The neck fit right on the body like they had been together forever.

I'm working on building a similar bass for my dad now actually. I'll post a pic once it's all together.

Here is my dad's bass all assembled. It's the same Classic Vibe J neck with a Basswood P body. It's 8.8 pounds and feels nice. The action isn't as low on this one as mine, I might get another setup done and see if they can shim the neck or something. Looks great though. Pic for you guys

Bit of an update: My dad joined a band and since we don't live in the same town I haven't seen him play out. But each time I would see pictures of the gig he wasn't playing it. I think he was leery of the Squier logo maybe?

Either way I picked up a nice Geddy Lee signature neck from a guy on Talkbass and slapped it on. Thing plays like a freaking dream and sounds like thunder of the Gods.

How has the neck changed the sound from the original?

I don't think it did very much. It is hard to tell though, I didn't play it much before I swapped the neck. I can tell you new strings made a world of difference. The old ones were dead, so it wouldn't have been a fair comparison anyway.
