Snagged this lovely contemporary strat for 349$ and I couldn't be more pleased. My first strat was a single humbucker contemporary strat in this same color. It has the TBX unit in the tone control. The only aftermarket is a demarzio in the bridge. Even came with it's original case. This is the one I always wished mine was when I was a kid.

Edit to say...this is an A series serial. I've never seen an a series contemporary before

It's my understanding that the A serial number Contemporary models were the earliest ones. From what I've read (here and other places) the Contemporary models actually were available in the rest of the world starting in mid-to-late 1984, but we didn't get them in the USA until after CBS sold Fender to FMIC - the sale was at the start of February 1985, but the MIJ Contemporary models didn't start coming over here until probably April - and by that time they were transitioning to the E serial numbers. I can't tell from your photo - is the serial number on your new acquisition on the headstock or on the neck plate? The photos I've seen of the A serial number Contemporaries it has been stamped on the neck plate.

The serial is on the neck plate, however my other one is an E serial and is also on the neck plate. I opened it up and there are no visible dates in there. There was a neat fender labeled paper shim in there that I will have to get a picture of.

there are these Japanese strat relics... o my gosh.

They have some crazy releases, like a scalloped fretboard strat with matching headstock...

Hello guys. Maybe you can help me identify mine. Its has no serial number except in the body. Stamped in red but almost erased. 20171006_045658.jpg 20171006_045520.jpg 20171005_181115.jpg 20171005_180804-1.jpg

What puzzled me more is the body cavity.

Hi Claire that is a very interesting guitar. I suspect its not original, but some sort of partscaster. You should start a new thread specific to your guitar, I think you would get many more responses that way.
