I just joined up seeing that I recently bought a Fender American strat. I owned one a few years back, and found this one for $749 at Guitar Center. Doing some upgrades. So far, so good. It had Les Paul knobs and a black pick guard. Quick swap, cleaning, string change and its like brand stinkin new. No fret wear. Sounds sick through my mesa boogie.

Eventually I am going to add new 250k pots, orange drop (.022), Fender tremolo system, noiseless pups, Fender locking tuners. It's going to be a beast when I upgrade it over time. This thing oozes tone. Even without it plugged in. It's insane. If you have any additional upgrade suggestions, please let me know!

    Welcome.... :D

If this is how you feel about it, then new pots and an OD cap won't give you any noticeable improvement. An .022 cap is an .022 cap.

My advice on modifications is if you find it lacks something, make a change. If you like the way it sounds now, then play the thing. :D

if it already sounds sick and oozes tone, what is there to improve by modifying?

leave it alone and play the heck out of it

your improvement in skill from playing it will way outweigh anything else you can do to it

When I replaced the pick guard, I noticed the electronics were pretty rusty/dirty. So I searched on Amazon and found the pot kits for strats. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00COOFHA8/?tag=strattalk05-20

I am constantly searching for tone improvements. I need the pickups to be a tad bit hotter than they are now. I play a lot of rock tunes. They can get rather noisy, but the tone is there.

It just needs to be a tad bit hotter on the pups.

Raise the pickups, especially the bridge. Or, goose your amp. :D

With that color strat I feel like I'm obligated to tell you you have to learn at least one malmsteen song.

Boost pedal and only engage it for the strat???

Or get a new loaded pick guard like I did.
