So yesterday I picked up this slab boarded old lady. She's been covered in another for sale thread, but now she's mine so I thought I'd share. The guitar had a refin in the 70s - the original color was sonic blue (some of it is left in the rear cavity)... Can't understand why anyone would refin this color... Oddly the neck seems to be in its original finish (we checked everything under UV light) but the neck stamp was sanded away during the refin. The date and work description is written on the heel of the neck. The pots are changed (dated 78 and 79 dates), as are the (horrible) tuners. In addition a second string tree has been added (again; why??). The volume pot is higher than the others, and this along with the tuners are the only things I'm fixing for now. She will probably need a refret in the near distant future, but she plays and sounds amazing. So far the aged klusons from crazy parts seem the best - any other tips are much appreciated. If anyone has any good ideas for fixing the pot length please let me know. Oh, and she came in a really cool swedish made case from when she was new. She is not a collector's guitar, but rather a player that suits me (and my budget...) perfectly. Part traded a couple guitars including a OW CS 1960 Strat, and alhough the CS played really really well this grand old lady has her beat on every area. Love this thing. Included a pic of her with her new period siblings - a '64 Jag and a '66 SR. Guess I have a thing for even numbers.
