    Hello All!

This is my first time posting here on Strat-Talk.

I had several second-hand guitars, but this was my first time purchasing one brand new.

I know that the RWs are usually best purchased used, but after months of playing the waiting game i became too impatient and jumped the gun.

I love this guitar especially the neck profile and tall frets!

I've always wanted a 2-tone sunburst strat with gold hardware, so i went ahead and ordered direct replacement parts from guitarpartfactory :)

I later realized that i should have opted for staggered tuners because i like the idea of no string tree! Stewmac has a nice set of gold Gotohs, so that was immediately ordered haha.

Upon completion of the hard wear install i will be bringing the strat to a shop for a full setup and also to get the fret edges rolled.

Here are some pictures of the hardware install. Staggered tuners to come once they are received :D

    Oh yeahhhhhhh

    Love the single-ply black guard

    What a beaut'!

Can't wait to get those staggered tuners!

I'll post the end result once i get it back from the shop!

    Cheers,

    Jonathan

Nice. Liked it better before but still nice. I was looking hard at a Road Worn Strat last week at Sweetwater but went a different direction.

Thanks Lonn, i know that gold may be tacky for some people. What direction have you shifted towards?

I agree, something about the black plastics just looks wrong to my eye.

The quality of the wear has really decreased since '09.... I'm not the biggest fan of the relic on mine, but i really wanted a nitro finish without having to spend all that money i don't have haha

Did yours have the pickguard wear when it was purchased?

Make sure you wrap the e & b strings all the way down the staggered tuner or you will bit get enough break angle over the nut and have weird sitar sounds. Both of my Eric Johnson Strats which have staggered tuners and a different angle to the headstock still needs the full length of the e & b string wrapped to get the angle good enough. I know the marketing stuff says staggered tuners allow you to ditch the string trees but I've had mixed results doing it on regular Strats.

Oh and since the body is nitro do not place it on those orange plastic covered stands or it will melt the finish. Either get a Hercules Stand which are guaranteed nitro safe of wrap your stand with cotton (old T Shirt cut up) to keep the rubber of the finish. Never let any synthetic stuff touch nitro for too long (Straps, stands, etc) or it will melt through the finish.

I have been through close to a dozen strats - but my RW50s (just like yours, 3TSB) immediately became my #1 when I got it -- and STILL is, a year and a half later!

    HNGD and welcome to Strat-Talk!!

Congrats! I have the tele version and love it!

I replaced the white pickguard with a black one as well. I actually found an official Fender Road Worn black pickguard too!

I thought all the Road Worn 50's were 2 tone sunbursts just as they were until 58? The OP's guitar is definitely 2 tone and not 3.

Congratulations! Love the necks on those things. I think those narrow-tall frets are the way to go on a 7.25" radius board...

    Enjoy!
