Well, I thought I might have found a score with another Strat I asked about a few days ago, but I really hit the jackpot with this one.

I had never heard of these before, and the seller clearly didn't know what he had. He just listed it as a dark blue Fender Strat for $350. I had to do some googling on Fender Strats with bound necks and wide-ranging humbuckers. Found out what it was, and picked it up immediately. Designed by a Fender Custom Shop master builder, and mostly American parts, but assembled in Mexico.

    Nice specs:
    Alder body
60s C shaped neck with 9.5" radius (pretty chunky) and 22 frets
    Bound neck
    Painted headstock
    Wide-ranging special humbuckers
5-way super switch (bridge full, bridge single, both full, neck single, neck full)
    CTS pots
Two point trem, full size block, bent steel saddles
Custom Shop Designed engraved neck plate
    Fender F stamped tuners

One interesting thing is the neck. It's 22 frets, but doesn't have an overhang (much like the Modern Player Teles). So the neck pocket is a tad longer than normal. I swapped out the stock cream knobs, switch tip, and trem tip for black. Looks much sexier this way. :p I just wish the Stratocaster logo on the neck was done in white so you could see it. It looks incomplete as is.

Really awesome, but I like it better with the white knobs and switch tip.

Doesn’t this have the same hardware as the Classic Player 60’s and 50’s? I can’t really tell from the photo but it looks the same.

According to Fender literature, the bridge on the Classic Player Series 60’s/50’s Strat is a Custom Shop part. They were the only Fender production guitars to get the Custom Shop bridge according to the docs. I believe the pickups are MIM but the electronics are the same as USA as are the tuners. As I read the story behind them, Fender selected a core group of guitar builders in Mexico and trained them specifically for this series so I suspect everything aside from the hardware and electronics is MIM. Outstanding guitars and a bargain at $350.

Mexico and USA use the exact same switches and electronics. I wasn't talking about HARDWARE. I was talking about the neck and body, there are so many rumors on the internet about Mexico products being actually USA necks and bodies....I wanted to shut down that false rumor....

Right. Yeah, absolutely. I see what you mean. Yes, they are MIM. Great build quality though. The guys they selected for this series really do a great job. This is what mine looks like under the covers. It's immaculate. I did clean up the wiring, just a bit though.

    Sweet!

Hard for me to think of any Stratocaster without SSS pups and maple neck as classic, but there you go.
