I bought an Epiphone 1960 Tribute Plus LP from GC. There is a sticker on the headstock where the serial normally is. Numbers on it were meaningless. I peeled it off and found damage. Put it back on and managed to rub the print off the sticker. Anyone heard of an Epi with no serial embossed? Looks like something was on there at some point and the sticker was put on to cover some of the damage.

That sticker was a refurbished sticker with new serial number from MIRC...they were sold the factory 2nd at a low price and then fixed whatever issue before reselling, it means it has no Epiphone warranty anymore....there is usually also a light USED stamp in the back of the headstock somewhere on guitars they have handled....

    The numbers weren't meaningless.....

I should note the guitar was used but in almost new condition. Nicest LP I've had the pleasure of playing. Thanks for the feedback. Would be nice to know year of manufacture. Might need to look at pots.

They're nice guitars. I bought one about a year ago. I was out looking for a tele but the lp seduced me. 20180606_082534-1.jpg

As GuitarM wrote earlier you bought a "refurbished" guitar................ which will by default have the original S/N overstamped.

Assuming the guitar is in mint condition the price should have been ~50% of the MAP price. Otherwise, take it back! That guitar will have a very low resale/tradein value.
