I had this happen. I now use a label maker on the wall warts
not trying to hijack the thread, but since its basically the same subject im gonna go ahead and put it here....
ive heard my ocd will sound better if i run it at 18 volts instead of 9. i use a 1 spot with a daisy chain and have no problems. i found this thing at sweetwater that will attach to the chain and convert 9v to 18v.
does anyone have any experience with something like this? i dont really need to get an isolated power supply as i have 'the bone' board and there would be no place to put it.
on That Pedal Show they talk about some pedals using 18V and giving more headroom.
I have a Caline power supply it’s worked great for
About a year now
I went back and edited my post for clarity. Having 12V+ and 9V- in the chain at the same time caused the issue.
so I bought a Caline Power 5.
Wow! what a difference. Everything is quiet. Now I need to figure out how to mount this thing to my home brew pedal board.
Thanks for all the help.
Would another pedal help.....Like a noise gate....
not at this point, I think
I have two of the Calines and a Joyo that looks like the same thing with different ink. All three work great and the Calines have been out a few times in various jams etc and has been problem free (couple years) and dead quiet. I got the third just to have a backup really, but so far its been happy just to ride along.
one last pic of how it is mounted for the time being
That looks like a successful mounting to me. Glad it worked out. Might have to try that brand.
I run my catalinbread echorec and earthquaker devices The Depths vibe pedal at 18V. Think I have since I got them. Can't remember exactly but the general difference is bigger/more detailed, more volume and headroom. I think I tried it with my Catalinbread formula 5 and liked it better at 9v. I wasn't looking for headroom with that pedal but might be a better voltage for always on type use or a color boost.
Not that I need it now, the power supply has two 18v outputs and a high output 9v.
I did see that. The 18V can be more of a luxury but that high output is sometimes necessary. Good feature.
Build an 18V Matsumin Valvecaster
