Nearest town is probably Greensboro
Eden, NC seems to be in the vicinity. A google maps search turns up several motels there ranging from $40 to $115 per night, but GunMonkeyINTL did suggest that Woodstock type accomodations are available.
Sorry. I’ve been on the road and haven’t checked in on the forum in a few days.
Correct on the general location. I don’t want to post my address, but I’ll get it to @Stratoskater , and we can make up a direction sheet to send to anyone who is coming.
There is a Hampton Inn in Eden, NC that is about 30 minutes away, and one in Martinsville, VA about the same distance. Likewise, wherever we don’t set up for playing, we can park cars, pitch tents, and put up a camp fire. Dogs can hang out with their owners or in the fenced-in back yard. It’s a six foot fence and is dog-friendly (nothing to hurt them, shade and water available).
Regarding the date: the 16th should still be fine for me, but I do have to be in Alabama the week before, and New Jersey the week after which might make it tight on preps.
If possible, the 9th or the 30th would work better.
I’m sorry for the late possible change of dates. If anyone has made hard plans, I’ll do everything I can to make the 16th work. My engagements the week before and the week after are in reference to a gov contract deal, and there is no way I can avoid those.
I can do the 30th weekend but not the 9th.
The 30th may actually be better in terms of giving time for prep. I think the 9th is too soon. We still have not even got a song list.
I appreciate it, guys.
Like I said, I can make the 19th work, but it would mean getting home the day before, and leaving the morning after.
Too, watching how some of these other ones have come together, 3 weeks may be too soon. Like, Ebidis pointed out, there isn’t a song list of anything yet.
@Stratoskater you might want to reach out to @Mansonienne as I think she did the organizing on one of these before, and it looked like she had a lot on paper ahead of time.
This one will be a little simpler since the venue and food is free (figured we’d just cook-out), and lodging is already sorted out- one of a couple hotels, or bring your own tent.
Sounds good. I too would prefer the 30th if possible. Would give more time to organize and practice songs.
I think you'll be surprised at how many songs we've all played together, separately. Hahaha .
Still think practice time would help. I know there are several folks who mentioned they are more in the beginner range of playing and I personally play in an all originals band and haven’t played a live cover song in probably 2 years except with my two piece acoustic group.
A couple I'd like to do would be
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
Miss you - Rolling Stones
Hey Joe won't take rehearsal, you can jam that one for an hour with no trouble. Another one is any of the multitude of songs that use E-D-A like Sympathy for the Devil, etc.. Then there's the 12-bar progression at various tempos from slow blues to upbeat rock. (etc.) Crossroads also one that is easy to jam to at various tempos.
That's what I like. Easy, no trouble. Makes me sound better than I am.
You figured out my M.O.! When a friend stops by, we have a couple beers, and decide to jam, it's not the time to try to start learning a song, it's time to pick a simple chord progression and jam away, trading leads, and driving the non-players to another room.
No doubt. A list is good .
Yes, it looks like all the other ones of these had a set list vs just a jam type format.
So let’s start a song list and we can trim it down to like 15 or so songs. Chime in with suggestions and also those who can sing speak up. I could do some backup vocals but not lead.
Hey Joe - Hendrix
Miss you - Stones
Remedy - Black Crowes
Wagon Wheel - Darrius Rucker/Old Crow medicine show
Howling at Nothing - Nathaniel Rateliff
Tuesdays Gone -Skynard
Paint it Black- Stones
Rocking in the free world -Neil Young
Cortez the Killer -Neil Young
The Weight - The Band
I shall be released - The Band
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett/Buddy Guy
Lola - Kinks
I can sing some things, like Hendrix. I may be bringing a friend who is the vocalist in my band. He is good.
Where (roughly) in AL are you?
I spent last week there. Started in Huntsville, and ended the week just south of Birmingham before coming home.
I'm in Birmingham.
Next time your in the area let me know. We could have a cold one.
