Interesting how so many of the alleged fakes recently have been in the UK.

They don't call it Fugazi island without reason.

Maybe the Brexit will change things :D

I'm still not sure I understand. Are you saying that you regard Britain as a "****ed up island". Or that it is commonly known as this by other people?

Either way, I wonder if that is a wise thing to post. Imagine the furore if someone on here described the USA as a "Fugazi country". How would you feel about that?

He has added some more information now saying that the body was refinished by Clive Brown. His work is impeccable, but I'd need a paperwork to prove it in order to believe him.

Yes, looks like someone polished it on a buffing wheel. (Or else made a new one out of chromed aluminum). :sneaky:

I'm sorry if I offended you in any way with my remark.
It's common knowledge for vintage geeks that the UK is considered as Fugazi Island.
In a recently deleted thread (because of links to fake guitars) @crashbelt stated: "You need to take extreme care buying vintage guitars in the UK - a previous poster once christened us "Fugazi Island' which isn't that much of an exaggeration!!" and it's been mentioned many times before on different other forums, like here or here.
I really don't mean to offend anyone with it, but unfortunately, when it comes to vintage guitars, the UK doesn't have a really good name...

And yes, I'm dutch, wandered Europe and settled down in Belgium...

And what I call "Rockingham Palace" is literally in my backyard (but has nothing to do with Rock whatsoever)

I'm not convinced that it is a fake. However, there are a few signs which don't quite ring true.

    1) the headstock decal looks wrong. However, having seen a film of the factory hand placing the water slide decals, it could be okay.

2). The pots look very clean and have virtually no rust or patena

3). The alloy screen on the back of the pick guard looks to new.

4). The seller comments that he is not sure if the case is original. In the early sixties, import taxes made the genuine Fender hard case very expensive and importers where happy to import guitars in cardboard type containers. When they received the instruments they the sourced local manufactures to buy the appropriate size case. So that's not an issue for me.

5). I have never seen that colour in a guitar of that age, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist. To my knowledge ( limited but gained from research when I sold my own '63) the factory used Automobile paints.

It might well be refinished in that colour, but the paint looks very thin to me.

Nobody said it was fake... ;)
@Bazz Jass alluded to the fake date: Tuesday 6th of December... So we're the 6th today, but it's not Tuesday... ;)

Furthermore, I think it is a real one with some replaced parts and a pro refin, and the seller is going there, but apparently doesn't know every detail (he bought it in an auction) or he doesn't want to include all the details...
