Well, all that lead coming down... I think it’s unlikely the ceiling could remain intact. But I’m not an expert, obviously.

At least, all the paintings and relics inside have been saved.

I hope the Contractor's insurance policies were paid up. Someone will be filing a rather large claim.

I don’t think they all made it out... and there was a relic in the spire... hopefully they saved a lot.

A day can start out great and then something happens that makes you want to cry. Today definitely qualifies and yes, this is a large blow to the world.:(

CBS news cameras showed and anchor reported the roof collapsed.

Yes, and it seems likely that the vaulted stone ceiling under that was damaged or destroyed, but we don’t know the extent of the damage yet (and it’s still burning...).

Won't know the extent of the damage until they can get inside and assess it.

    Can't see much surviving undamaged.

I don’t think this is correct.
I’ve been glued to CNN ever since the story broke. Pretty much the consensus is that the Cathedral is headed for total loss.

Besides, the melting point of Lead is 621.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Experts discussing this fire repeatedly say that the stone walls make it a superior extremely hot oven - that’s why no firefighters went inside.

Hope is that the walls don’t collapse. I cannot imagine that the roof has survived.

Further discussion by some interviewees indicate they will rebuild. I cannot see the Catholic Church not doing this.

I visited Paris once, over the holidays from 06 to 07. at the time i was sick of cities, sick of noise, sick of civilization - but Paris, well, not your ordinary city. So beautiful, and Notre Dame was a cornerstone of that beauty, seen from so many locations as i spent 10 days walking all over the city. i fell in love with more than one ancient building, but none as hard as i fell for this cathedral.

If it does turn out that the fire started from the roof renovations can you imagine how bad the people that did it are going to feel ?

Demo/Reno jobs are full of hidden surprises. Most of them not good

The unfortunate thing is some things can't be replaced at any cost
