Don't think I'd like to stop hearing Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Chopin, Mozart et al, so I guess I don't mind dropping either... ;)

On the other hand I was part of NWOBHM, so I suppose I'm with @sam_in_cali

For classic rock, there are some American bands I like but I also like a lot of British bands, so I guess I'd give up American music in that case. It's a tough choice though, as there are some American bands I like quite a bit. Also what makes it a tough question is that the musical styles are pretty much the same or similar - Aside from the band being from either place, what makes the music American or British? A rock/pop band is a rock/pop band regardless of where they're from.

IMO some of the best music was in the 80s.

At the times in my life that I had "favorite" bands...they were always British...Iron Maiden, The Cult, Led Z, Pink Floyd. The one exception is the Black Crowes.

But, I'd argue that the English speaking world musically is mostly a single culture.

If I really had to, I would have to give up the Brit stuff. Even though I love their spin on it, most popular music evolved out of American roots music, like gospel, blues, soul and rhythm and blues, bluegrass, country and folk.
You can trace some of that all the way back again to Europe, but that's getting a bit vague.
I'm glad I don't have to make that choice, though! :D

I was just listening to some Tuvan throat singing last night. Seriously.
Paul Pena did a bunch of that and even went over there and performed. Cool stuff!

In the interest of actually complying with the request of the thread (since I know I really don't have to choose), I'd give up American music.

Yes, there are so many bands and artists I'd miss out on but many more of my favorites are British. Most of my favs from the 60/70s are British and I can't give up the NWOBHM bands. I'll miss the Big 4 thrash bands though :(

I'd pretty easily give up Icelandic bands however...Bjerk included. :D

I would give up American music... The only thing I would REALLY miss is all the blues.... oh ****, and all the jazz!!! Don't do this to me!!!:(

OK, I can make the following deal: give up American rock & pop, but keep the blues and jazz. IMHO British rock & pop is WAY better than American.

No vote here Sam, all or nothing...

Life without Little Feat, STP, Floyd or Sabbath as examples means I'd be in the grave already LOL ! (Not to mention the vast amount of bands I've not mentioned)...

    Can't be done,

NB. I suppose there's always the Scorpions & MSG to get by with !

It would have to be the left nut. It hangs just a teeny bit lower, and you know what they say about low hanging nuts...

I would miss the Beatles, Stones, Floyd, etc... but life wouldn't be worth living without James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sam & Dave, and all the rest of those american R&B singers
