Here's the Practical Music Workshop Challenge: The Rhythm Changes.
Play a rhythm part. Anything that sounds good to you.
Play a melody. Any melody. But do write a melody.
    Solo in the middle.
    Come back to the melody.

4 bar intro, 8 bar loop.

    chart.png

If you don't play a rhythm part, you didn't meet the challenge.
If you dont play a repeating melody, you didn't meet the challenge.
If you just solo...well that's not what this is about. Jass Jassington will ask you to leave the stage :D

    With thanks to @fezz parka

Well on this one at least I won't have an existing tune screaming in my head that I'm trying to avoid. Thanks for posting.

That's the point. There are hundreds of songs with a I/vi/ii/V in them. ;)

Ok, dumb question- what's the easiest way to set oneself up to record for these things?

I think I'm ready to move beyond using the camera on my phone. But not too far beyond.

I’d be thinking of that D#dim7 as a B7b9....making it the V of Em.
That would make it much easier to navigate.

    What does everyone think?
    Any other suggestions?

Follow your rubric. Such things usually prevent the "I'll know it when I see it" nonsense prevalent in the art world.

I see it as a chromatic walk up to the Em7.

WTF did I just listen to? Is it a deep jab at the establishment? Or a social commentary on the sick twisted times we find ourselves living in at this moment. I am not sure, but one thing is abundantly clear. That take is too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Or Reaper will set you back all of $60 if you decide to keep it after the 60-day trial. In terms of features and working environment, it's up there with the big boys, and you'll be able to add a vast array of plug-ins if your need increase later on. It's the one I'd probably choose if I didn't already use Logic Pro. http://reaper.fm/

Whether you run it under Windows, macOS, or even Linux is up to you. :)
