This MIJ Ibanez is for sale near me for a good price, but one thing is bugging me. I spent a good 2 hours yesterday turning the internet upside down looking for another just like it and can't find one. It's an 83 RS125, problem is every vintage Ibanez site I went to only showed pics and specs with a 1 piece maple fretboard. Seller says he bought it from the original owner years ago and believes it's all original but of course can't be sure. My guess would be it's neck is from another model but of course there are no model markings anywhere, just the serial number dating it to 83 and pics I found of the model. It just looks like a beast and as I said I really like the 80s Japanese guitars.

Who knows? Maybe the customer wanted a rosewood fretboard so they swapped one off a rs405 or 505 that same year.

Yeah, there were a couple other 83-84 models that would have had this neck. I actually like the rosewood look better.

Did a quick google search and found a copy of the 1983 Ibanez catalog listing the RS125. It shows no option other than maple for the neck.

Yep catalog only lists maple for that model. The 405 and 505's had rosewood necks that year. Thats why I wondered if there was a store switch. Who knows? Probably the original guy who bought it.....maybe.:D

Perhaps bother is the wrong word. It's the not knowing the story that bothers me I guess. Lord knows I've built enough partscasters myself even though I do love older original guitars.

It's a guitar that you really want at a good price.
Stop arguing with yourself and buy it.

If your goal is collectibility and possible future investment recoup I’d think hard...if the goal is obtaining an unusual but slap killer guitar, then tracing its heritage becomes less important.

I’ve got some killer guitars that on the “vintage” or “collectible “ market are worth squat, but are astounding in Sonics, feel, and vibe

At the moment it's just the fact that I really don't need it even at $250. I've got an Epi gold top LP that I dearly love and an Epi Dot with upgraded pickups being delivered tomorrow so I'm more than covered in the HH guitar area. It's just a cool looking guitar.

...Late to the Party, but it looks like an RS125 with a RS405MB neck.

I had an RS125 with single coils. It was my first electric guitar. The finish on those is really weird. It's a kind of fake, plastic finish like they used to do on kitchen tables back in the 70's. It gouged and peels off easily. This one looks to be in nice shape though. Mine was maple FB. It seems that all the Ibanez guitars from that time came with that case. Mine did and so did a buddy's. It was $150 dollars brand new. It was the entry level Roadstar II. I scalloped the FB on mine from the 12th fret up. $250.00 sounds like a deal.

The RS125 only had humbuckers. The RS205 and RS100 ad single coils.
