If they really want to accurately "relic" an amp, it will also need to smell like urine, stale beer and Marlboros. Total poser if it doesn't.

Relic guitars I accept but relic amps, no way. Just buy an old amp.

Amps should be heard and not seen...

Exactly. I like reliced guitars because they look like the ones my heroes played, but a reliced amp doesn’t make any sense to me. I certainly like the aesthetics of vintage amps, but I don’t need them to look all gnarly.

I have a 2002 Tacoma that has a nice patina on it. I was joking with my mechanic that I might have to wash it one day to which he replied, “ Not why would you go and do that, you would ruin its personality.” 164500 miles and still purring like a cat.

As to the false relic of an amp, sorry don’t get it. Though I am not a big fan of purposefully making a new guitar look like a relic, I kind of get why someone would like to buy a guitar that looks like it has been played for years. I don’t however, see the purpose or reason behind making a new custom built amp look like some one pissed, threw up or spilled a beer down the front. But hey, to each his own.

In my opinion relicing is beyond stupid and far into the poser category. Old gear DOES look nicer.... especially and old worn maple neck... but it has to be natural.

I have an '01, and same deal. I'm at 204 now, and the most money I've had to put into it is for upper ball joints a year ago.

I've done the shellac/lacquer on-new-tweed thing. Can't find a reason to age a tolex amp. Or to pay 10k for one for that matter. :D

If that amp was gigged by RJ Reynolds in a smoky jazz club full of let me put my beer here goofballs, then i could accept why it looks that way, but that still devalues it, by criminey.

What a joke ... and a celestion greenback to boot. The speaker probably cost Fender about $50 with their volume buying.

Just to compare, you could buy this black face deluxe amp by Achilles:

    For $2,306.44

The last amp I had relic'd (A Yamaha PA amp) was achieved by somebody pouring a pint of beer all over it. It didn't raise it's value or make it work any better.

That’s good to hear. All I have had to replace was an oil pan gasket. Love my Tacoma. Cheers

I really love @tommytele's Sal Trentino-modded Fender Super, but his amp really is from 1972-73.

Thanks, the amp was "Blackfaced" in '82...It has tone for days and has been a serious workhorse...something about 4 10's and the open back to fill a room with sound and a simply amazing volume pot that is so sensitive it can play at bedroom levels IMG_7640.JPG

A bunch of us have played through Mike's amp....it takes Strats, Telecasters, even my Flying V, and really puts out the beef!

fender really needs to chill out

seems pretty damn lazy to screw a logo to the back of the amp and all of a sudden it demands more than 2k usd....

at least inlay the damn thing... or hell.. at least make a special amp.. none of this, "paul spilled his coffee on that roll of grill cloth over there"
"sweet.. lets use it and call it vintage relic"
"this is why we pay you the big bucks tim"
