The rumours of the 2012-2017 era Pure vintage series guitars being discontinued seems to be true and the American Original series will be the replacement. Here is the 60s Strat...fusing the looks of the previous 59 and 65 reissues into one guitar. It has the look of a late 1964 transitional Strat with the older mint green pickguard and the newer transition logo and pearloid dots of the 1964/65 era.I still prefer the older 1959-64 look with the spaghetti logo and it's a bummer that now no USA reissue offers that iconic look...it's only going to be available through the custom shop. The Mexican reissues have that type of early 60s Strat look but with a non-vintage correct Pau Ferro fretboard.Anyways this new 60s American original reissue is still a pretty guitar:

Who have they got coming up with all those daft names?!
    "Elite", "Professional", "Original"...

At least it has the 6 screw bridge - the marketing department's decision to name a guitar with a 2 point 'Classic Player' has been a pet peeve of mine for ages :D - who knows what an American Original could have been!

But no longer "pure" Vintage offerings? I mean with the 7.25'', etc etc? Would these be only available in MIM or Custom Shop?

That seems to be the case based on research from some ST users, though Fender has not officially announced to the public that the 7.25, year-specific AVRIs are going away.

So no middle price for 7.25'' (as far as we know) - choose between MIM or go to Custom Shop.... hmmmm...

If you did, there's 30-odd years of used ones to choose from.

Exactly. Buy used, guys! I've picked up a '59 and a '57 in the last year that, combined, ended up costing only a couple hundred bucks more than a new 2017 AVRI.

o_O What? Tell me, isn't that one of the major reasons for getting an AVRI?

I played a Telecaster Elite Thinline (actually I played three of them) the other day at Sam Ash and was totally blown away. That thing was freakin' amazing (all of them). I had to leave because I had a bunch of credit cards on me.

I'm jealous. I'm not sure I've had GAS this bad before.

That 2012 NOS Classic Player 50's Strat I pickup up last year from Dave's Guitar Shop for $600 (with case) seems like a better deal with every passing month.

The Elite has the nicest neck profile, front and back that I have ever played. I still remember playing one for the first time.... I was just sitting there a bit stunned. I just couldn't believe how good the neck felt under my fingers. The fact that I originally went in to buy a Les Paul Standard was completely forgotten or dismissed.... I knew at that moment that I was buying an Elite telecaster. The Mystic Black with a maple board was the one for me.That guitar puts a smile on my face every time I pick it up.:)

Was just at The Tone Shop today!

Great place to shop, where all the employees are musicians.

I actually left empty handed  but I played some great guitars.

Just to add to my previous post, I don't think the guitar has any weaknesses. The 4th Gen noiseless are great. The bridge pup is Tele sound through and through and the neck is smooth and glassy sounding. Add to that the S1, fattening up the tone and you have a true weapon of destruction baby!
