A few months ago, the majority of my school of rock group went out on our own. It was time. We have a jam spot we rent, have been amassing a PA. We also swapped drummers for a guy our age (40s) who is a music major and former pro. Lastly we updated our name to Something On The Side -a nod to music being our mistress. We are the umptenth classic rock cover band, but bring depth and breadth in people playing multiple instruments, 7 members, 2 female vocalists, Keys, Harps, Mandolins, etc. Our MO is having fun and we aim to gig once a month-ish. We still run like a democracy which can bring challenges, but people are falling into roles. Mine so far is sales/booking/pr. (What I do.) So possibly a little hungry, I booked us in a couple weeks for a monster 3+ hour gig. We have to set up our own PA. It’ll be baptism by fire. That said the songs are tight and we have been working through sound checking our gear. Any other lunatics have any advice to share?
