There are at least a couple songs that have been remade or remixed that I think are at least as good as the original.

One of them is Funky Town - Remade by Pseudo Echo:

The original Funky Town - Lipps Inc:

Another one is (I think) technically more of a remix than a remake - In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins (remix):

The original In The Air Tonight:

I like Elton John’s Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds better than the Beatles original version.

There have been quite a few covers that I've preferred to the originals, like Guns N' Roses' cover of Live and Let Die, but the one that amazed me to the point that I couldn't believe it was the same song was the Gary Jules cover of Mad World originally done (not well, IMHO) by Tears for Fears.

It's a hard thing to say...but The Allman Brothers hold 2nd place here.

I like Linda Ronstadt's version of Blue Bayou vs. Roy Orbison's original. Clapton's version of I Shot The Sheriff vs. Bob Marley's original.

I like Nina Simone's version of the Dylan song "I Shall be Released" (but I think the Band recorded it first- does that make their recording the "original"?)

But to give the Band their due, I like their version of "Long Black Veil" better than Lefty Frizzell's

    EDIT:

got to include this one on the post

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one; IMO The Dickies killed the whole vibe of the song...
