Last week this beautiful strat was described as sonic blue ( and still is at the end of the description ) Apparently after consulting some of the worlds experts in fender custom colours they now think that this, and the 65 Jazz bass also listed are Daphne blue. Fender Mustangs from the sixties came in Daphne blue as one of the standard colours and its way darker than sonic.

What do you guys think ?

    Sonic or Daphne ?

Its hard to determine from one picture especially when talking about two pastel colors that look a lot like each other under different lights. And this one is yellowed with age so that's a factor also.

I saw this guitar at the Philly show. It looked Sonic to me. I know he showed it to Terry Foster. Not sure what he said. Mike is a pretty humble and honest guy, so I’m sure he didn’t come to the color conclusion lightly. It’s a really nice guitar and I don’t think that price is out of line being that clean.

    I think it's Sonic.
Blues are extremely difficult to render good on picture and screen. Depending on the lightning it can be completely a different look.

Also, depending on the clear coat and the exposure to UV over the years, results vary greatly after all this time.

I think Sonic turns more green over the years, while daphne is lighter in colour and in some pictures can tend to look white...

I couldn't see the color of the guitar because all I saw was red...

I agree that this looks like Sonic Blue. To me that's the one that appears white in some pictures. I've always seen Daphne as darker than Sonic. But that's just me. :whistling:

Maybe a former sonic blue owner can shed his light? @Fastfingers

My profile pic is my old 1965 Sonic Blue Strat. When I saw it in person it looked identical. It’s an interesting debate that I’m sure there will be no clear winner in.

Yes, probably no clear winner. But to me it looks as sonic blue as well. Never had a sonic blue strat in my hands, had a daphne that was darker and a Jazz Bass in sonic that looked similar as yours and the ATB Strat and bass...

I think Fender really muddied the water with their Pure Vintage 59 reissues. This colour is honestly not representative of many images of pre-CBS
    Sonic Blue strats I've seen:
