    Here
    Band member calls last night.

Says check out the county fair website events page for next weekend.

Ummmm....ok. Think there must be a band I might want to see. Our band has played there several times in past years.

What the...??? Our band is listed to play.

The good news apparently they like us.

The bad news.... (see thread title)

My first response would be to say that I'm already booked that day...but then I'd regret missing out on the fun!

Was that a weird way of saying you were kicked out of the band perhaps?

    Here
One of the band members stopped by today.

Apparently one or more of the fair committee members thought we'd already been asked so they put us in the promo online and print.

Did a double take last night when a band member called after seeing us listed on the website. Surely it was an old page from 2016, 2015, .... nope.

It's a cool gig. Last year was on a stage will full PA supplied in front of the grandstands.

We have a couple large events in the next couple weeks, all work regular jobs, it only took a couple minutes to decide not going to happen.

It will possibly open the doors for another band and I'm good with that.

It's tough unless you have one person handling everything.

In one of my previous bands that was climbing out of the garage, our lead guitar player (and best friend from kindergarten) booked us with on of our friends mother's bar.

They were a country and western (both kinds) joint, and we were hard rock.

After out third song, people booing and heckling us, the daughter came over and said "I thought you said you played Neil Young?"

We did play Neil but it was Rockin' in the Free World. We played that one, and the mother came over and said she didn't think it was working out. We played Killing in the Name Of, and during the chorus (f*** you I won't do watcha tell me) she cut the power to the stage.

We had a signed contract (he was at least smart enough to have one in our promo pack- demo tape- remember them?), and she said she'd pay us for that night but that was it.

We got $325 when the contract was for $700 for the weekend.

Had to load out through the front door taking abuse from the crowd of hecklers.

When I (we) questioned him, he (who had been in a couple bands in college) said he wanted us to feel what it was like on stage. He thought we needed the confidence that a successful bar gig would give us.

Almost broke up our band before we even got started. We'd been playing parties up until that, had opened for a successful local act.

We went on to better things, eventually making a CD, winning a local talent Sunday night radio show's battle of the bands (8 band bracket) opening a show for Everclear and playing mostly college towns in the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana area ($450 a night single show, $1000 2 night minimum).

And I decided that Chris would never handle bookings ever again.

I've sat through stuff I don't like (the opening act for Buddy Guy in Paris was so bad it made me angry that better musicians were deprived of such a slot), but I would never boo or heckle a band. What's wrong with people?

Sounds like Blues Brothers when they played a country bar... :(

Maybe I should unleash some Neil at a nursing home I'm playing at later today.

Rock and roll will never die

Well given the population is aging, that might go over better. Especially if it was the first acoustic version of that song on Rust Never Sleeps.

But at least there was no chicken wire and they weren't throwing any bottles. ;)
