Meh, who cares. All this kind stuff is on borrowed time anyhow. The next one will be along as soon as they can get enough stupid investors together.

Have a friend with a big job there. Sad times for the staff.

Unfortunately, people like the product specifically because it is "free"

A lot of people care. A lot of people are affected. Tech companies are not so different from manufacturing companies, or other traditional industries. There are still humans working there, people with families.

That's life, sad but true. These kinds of businesses have never been sustainable, they're just places to write off other people's money.

Long ago I did web code (C, C++, java, VB, Power builder)...
    All contract work...
All but 3 concerns burned through their capital and never saw the light of day.
They were all rooted in poverty like existence...
    And
    Thought they needed opulence...
    Poof...
Being pre-fired(contract) was a very secure feeling...

This one VP would fly to meetings with tickets bought an hour or so before departure...
    More than once a week...
One site had had a SF apartment no one lived in.
Another had a Beemer in case someone needed a ride.
I had a 12 yr old toyota tacoma I slept in behind the seat.

I care. People invest a lot of time and energy into learning, using and compiling their stories onto these platforms. It's no fun to move over to something else that may not last either.

So get your own server and pay for your own bandwidth, it ain't cheap, but at least you're in control. Sorry, but that's how it is, unless you live in utopia.

Kinda do that now but I don't share my server nor bandwidth with the world. Nor would I have time to maintain a service. No one I'm sure would want some basement hack like myself being responsible for sharing their music.

You couldn't afford to, neither can they, that's the flaw in their plans.

Sound Click is still there. They haven't tried to complete in the streaming business and appear to be doing OK. They have no content limits either.

You'll need a lot more bandwidth and storage than I bet you currently have.
