Sorry to hear it. A few years ago I beveled my right index fingertip with a table saw. It's pointier than the other fingers. I also had the open fracture and stuff had to have it all reconstructed. I lost the fat pad on the tip so sometimes when I play bass I wrap with medical tape.

My guess is you will find a way to play.

no, not yet. i am sure there is surgery in the future for me. one of the biggest things i think will be nerve damage and the loss of feeling

Man, I am really, really sorry to hear it. It's really early, but please don't give up hope yet. Some great players were able to overcome the loss of parts of fingers, or the loss of whole fingers, thru determination, practice and willpower. You might be able to Eventually as well, and it might not be so hard after working at it a bit.Think Django Reinhardt, Tony Iommi, Jerry Garcia, and I'm sure there has to be quite a few lesser known players around the world who were successful at overcoming some physical limitations. Rick Allen of Def Leppard figured out how to play drums using his one arm, Jeff Healey figured out how to play badass guitar blind, and laying in his lap. Keep in touch on your recovery, a lot of people on here are caring, and can help with ideas.

You got that right. Still, I put money on you figuring it out. If I did, you will.

Best of wishes for your recovery. Maybe a thumb pick will help.

Sorry to hear about your accident, I know how you feel.

About 25 years ago I had the tip of my right middle finger (about a half inch) smashed off. The most painful thing I have ever experienced. They were able to reattach it, but I lost the tip of the bone, and it took at least a year to regain full dexterity in that hand.

So...this is your picking hand? If so, you're lucky, although it might not seem like it.

    God speed your recovery.
