    Hei everybody.
    I found a shop who is selling this Squier '57 JV Stratocaster from 1983. Normaly they are selling wind instruments, but the owner sells this JV for a friend. He can't tell me if it's a Domestic or an Export, even the owner doesn't know (also both didn't know that there are different models). The asking price is 650 Swiss Franks, thats also 650 Dollars. A very good price, even if it's a domestic one. But is there a way just from looking what model it is? The shop is not around the corner, so before i traveling to see the guitar i wanted to ask if someone can tell!
    Cheers!

    JV15xxx is mid 1982, probably has an August '82 date on the butt of the neck (early Squier brand).

    Immediately, this tells us it is an export model (serial number too early for a domestic Squier).

    This (JV1xxx) was the short period in which an apparent shortage of American pickups, resulted in export models being temporarily fitted with Japanese SQ pickups, with those USA units left over being deferred to the domestic Fenders, until the new vintage cloth wired pickups came online....as fitted to AVRI's.

    You may be lucky and find it has plain wired US pickups (always dated on the bobbin bases).

    Plain wired pickups (not cloth) and just a feint line across the bases or a hard felt pen line across all of the magnet poles, indicates a Japanese pickup (very good they are too!).

    By late 1982 exports were getting their correct spec Fullerton black bobbin pickups with cloth wire.

    Hope I explained that ok?

    @Rockape @guitarman1984 @simoncroft @Fairlane 63 @Kenshin88

    Here she is, had allready time today for pick it up. She is in such a beautiful shape, just a few small dings and scratches. Gonna make the hardware shine like new over the weekend. The Neckdate is xx.03.82. Can't read the first number, there are scratches because of the lacquer in the neckpocket. Is this possible with this serial number JV15402? No stamps in the neckpocket, hmmmm...!? There is a routing from the neck pickup cavity to the neckpocket, see on the picture with the neckpocket. Is this legit?. It's an two piece body. There is a 5-way switch, but i was thinking they start using 5-way switches in early 1983!? And anyway the would called DM-30 and DM-50, not vlx53!? I think it is not the original one. The switch and potentiometers looks like on my squier E-series strat. The pickups i think these are the Japanese SQ ones. The tremblock looks like very new, maybe changed? Everything else looks okey!
    Now: i tried it out with my peavey classic 20 minihead. It sounds really, reaaaaally great and it's a pleasure to play! :) Changed the knobs for aged ones because i like how it looks. Removed this ugly sticker. My japanese guitar number eleven, i just like these instruments!
