Crazy. I stopped by Guitar Center on my way home from work for some strings and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Lenny was in a display case. Forgive the potatoe need more jpeg quality photo, this was one of the last things I expected to see today. But this is the real deal. SRV’s #2, a 1963 Strat. That weird sticker underneath the bridge is from a turn of the century Gibson Mandolin.

    Here it is in action

Obviously this video pre-dates a few modifications and cigarette burns, but it’s the same guitar.
I can say the checking was pretty bad. I would be scared to touch it and I would not consider it as playable condition. YMMV. This is currently at the Guitar Center Anderson Ln #200, Austin, TX 78757

The guitar that launched a cottage industry making mandolin inlay copies. :)

Always cool to see these famous guitars out where people can see them and admire the music they've helped create. Thanks for sharing the pics!

I probably would've stood there staring at it in awe for a few hours.

You don't have to do that. You can come over here, look at my guitar, and also will be able to tell your friends "I knew him when he still sucked at playing guitar!"

I need to stop by and see it next time I am town.
I actually know someone who chipped in 50 bucks on it.

Same "pleasant surprise" for me on my lunch break today. Stopped in to check out the new store remodel and low an behold- almost crapped myself when the store clerk told me it was the real deal, not a custom shop.

It's on the "moderately interesting" end of the scale for me rather than awe-inspiring. SRV made the music, not that guitar.

I had it in another thread but saw number one in Austin a month or so ago. Super cool. May need to head back to see Lenny.

Yes, but the reason it's cool to people is that 'SRV made the music' with that guitar! You're close to SRV when you're close to the instrument.

Some locking tuners, a humbucker and a Floyd you might have something there...

No I'm not. I'm close to SRV when I'm listening to his music. SRV made that music with his mind and his fingers. I get no more excited about being close to something he used to do it than I would if, instead of a guitar, it were the shirt he wore when recording the music. Or the mic stand that held the microphone through which he recorded the music. Or the knob from the slider on the mixing desk in the studio where he recorded the music.

Maybe they can scrape some DNA out of that fretboard and clone him.
