Hello all! I have a 1982-83 strat. Its candy apple red or burgandy with a gold on the upper portion of the body toward the neck, Is this a standard color, or what? I can't find any other strats with these colors. Thanks for any help.

Not a standard color. I have seen that finish, but I believe that was a limited run. I think what you have is a bit of a rare bird. Pics would be really helpful.

The Stratoburst finishs were offered for a short time on several models including the base model Stratocaster and The STRAT.
They were introduced at summer NAMM 1982 and lasted no more than a year.

Bronze Stratoburst (color code 550, as shown)
    Black Stratoburst (551)
    Blue Stratoburst (552)
The black and blue variants faded into silver instead of the gold on the Bronze.

These were part of numerous changes brought on by Dan Smith and followed on the International Color series.
There were also some "marble" finishes around the same time or shortly after.

It's a standard color in the sense that it wasn't special order or dealer exclusive but is fairly uncommon.

That is gorgeous! I love that! And thanks @Tone Guru for providing the information, I learned something new. I love this forum!:) odd that it has skunk stripe when it's a rosewood fretboard.

Thanks for the info! When I purchased this I wanted a dive bomb tremelo rock guitar, but my dad and my uncle insisted on this! As I have aged a bit I think they were right! Just awesome guitars!

I agree! But I will be just handing it down to my son so it will possibly hold whatever value it has just the way it is! I do like the pearloid though!

All Rosewood Strats (other than vintage spec) since the 80's (or maybe the '70s? Not sure about that) have had skunk stripes, so it's not odd at all.

I understand what you are saying, I've seen a few of those too. What I think is odd is that they made process less efficient. Installing the truss rod from front and then glueing on the Fretboard is much easier and more efficient.

Yeah, I don't understand why they do skunk stripes on rosewood boards either.

seems candy apple was popular in the early 80s same as fiesta was popular in the 60s red strats are awesome. mark knopfler thinks so.

Nice. I had an Ibanez in that color scheme a couple of weeks ago.
