I imagine that some of us have also been in a somewhat similar situation at some point or another. In the guitarist's handbook, page 9, section 2B, is the contact person who asks you to audition, and gushes about the band, almost making you expect the second coming of The Beatles, Allman Bros., whatever, fill in your own. You show up, and get something in the ballpark of what you got. Three things that have always stuck in my personal craw: A rehearsal, or audition where nobody really knows what their doing, no plan or order of any kind. Then a singer who painfully, and definitely can't sing, and a drummer who can't keep steady time.

Sounds like a nightmare... a real one, an unpleasant dream, it's quite surreal actually....

    GREAT story.

Another true life tale from the road of which unfortunately I'm suffering through right now.

Another post when the dust settles.

It's cause they are self conscious of the fact they can't play and are afraid to get called on it. This causes many of them to act like azz hats hoping to cover up the fact that they just not to pretty good. In my younger days I'd stepped all over the songs and left.... these days they wouldn't dare ask me to audition.

this thread is interesting. Our barn band has had egos come and go. We, the core group, just get together for the joy of making music with others. We've have guys "audition" us, but they were looking for something we don't want to be, and left. We have guys that range from serious professional to me. Between truth in advertising and egos, it is a pia sometimes.

You handled it well. I can't say I would have. Having wasted a good portion of my 20's and 30's trying to 'make it' I have no patience for amateur hour anymore.
