I would recommend the F-150 or the Ram for general durability.

The David Gilmour recipe is Seymour Duncan SSL-5 bridge, Fender Custom Shop '69 middle, and a Fender Custom Shop Fat '50s neck. Seems like an all around good set to me.

    Yes, Seymour Duncan.

I'm general I don't like active pickups or circuits, I don't like the feel, dynamics, how hot they are and/or how they interact with my amps.

A set of Seymour Duncan SSL-1's will do a bit of everything very well...;)

Yes, now that you say that, a bit of a shame to not have a true single coil there. An SSL1 In the neck is a thing of beauty. An SSH set would likely be more flexible as well.

Original early '70s pickups turn up on eBay for time-to-time.
Is originality not a concern ?

Asking what are the best pickups is very subjective. Most will say the best is what they currently have. I didn't know what that meant until I bought my Holy Grail pickups from Suhr.

When I heard Pete Thorn's Line 6 Helix Demo on YouTube that was it for me, I was obsessed. Well I have OCD so I really was. After finding out his Suhr was $2400 I decided to build my own clone. Got ahold of him on The Gear Page PM and he told me what was in it. I mean I could have bought a Suhr but since I was noobie guitar player I wanted to do a hands on tutorial of how it works.

Suhr Pete Thorn "Thornbucker Plus" in the bridge (Suhr makes a non=Plus Thornbucker too at 8.8K, the Plus is 9.3K) / Suhr V60LP Single Coil 6.0K in the Middle / Suhr V60LP Single Coil 6.0K in the Neck. I also installed tricked out Electronics which really helped with achieving the tone. Most people don't change the electronics but it's so important.

Can't stop playing this guitar. Even documented the entire 11 episode of the build on YouTube (link below if interested).
