Have been offered a slot to play a set at one of my nephews parties. This is his band, which also has a couple more nephews/nieces in it:

Now I have to write enough material to play a set, get the arrangements figgered out and find some players for the band. Maybe doable.

Cool. Why not play some rock classics, plus a handful of your finest moments? Some of my favourite albums took me a few plays to get into, and you can win over an audience a lot quicker with material they already know.

Let your nephews and nieces worry about art, while you get them on the dance-floor with some straight-ahead, mindless boogie! :D

This crowd is mostly musicians and fans of the acts that are playing. Nephew's stuff is pretty experimental and he has a local following. They will be very tolerant of original music and very likely pretty drunk. I am going to put together a couple of jam tunes so that Boyo can go funky nuts for four minutes and it would not bother me at all to play a couple of mangled covers of carefully selected tunes.

A lot to put together, all it takes is a scheduled school function for Collin to quash the thing.

Complicated a bit by us not actually having a band...

I don't hate them if they is us.... :D

It's a viable approach if needed.

That too. Three other bands playing including a reputed hot funk band full of music majors. :D
