that's a good way to think about it.
There's a vast storehouse of music that isn't rock and isn't country. My band plays swing, jump blues, torch songs, jazz standards and the occasional pop ditty. I was just working on "Ain't Misbehaving."
And she is in charge....
the drummer in this band im in used to be a metal drummer......so the other day at rehearsal, during a break, we jammed out creeping death.....it was killer.
yeah...I hear ya.....Im just making a point using two extremes.
Rock is hormones, angst and sexual.
Country is all emotional, sentimental and remembering what it was like to be sexual.
Much like Groucho Marx, I don't think I would join any band that would want me.
Same can be said about da blooze.
oh hell yeah. im bringin the blooz IN to this band, and they are digging it.
in front of my 20 y.o. son's friends i like to run a few fast licks, finger tap, throw in some wide bends, pick squeal like a stuck pig and then dive bomb into oblivion. they can not play so they do not know i would be lucky to be considered just an average player, but they think i am the biggest freak there is.
they assume older than dirt peeps got no fire left so i always throw the big logs on when they come around.
they have heard me crank madonna, the beatles, led zeppelin, willie and black sabbath while i am looking through the classical stuff to play next.
i have them more confused than vinnie barbarino.
Reggae is another genre where you can have white hair, preferably dreads I guess, and play until you fall over. I used to think that all rock was for young guys and girls but most of the rock bands that are well known are older now too. "Dad Rock" is a phrase I've only heard in the last few years. That makes me think that in our current digital age that our age doesn't matter as much as it used to. If the music is great I think the playing field is more level and has a chance to be heard. At least I hope it does.
I kinda feel that way too.....but these guys like the stuff I do, even when I don't. so I cant listen to myself.....I have to take their word for it.
A vast storehouse of music that you actually have to be a good player to play!! Where does that leave the rest of us? Hmmm???
what? where? when?
Me and the boys.. back in the day..
you now owe me a new laptop, damnit!!! I JUST GOT THIS ONE TOO!!!!!
i am only a legend in my living room any time i plug in. but it gives me leverage over the young-uns since they think i am cool and they have no idea what i will say, play or do next.
even though they told me we would be doing originals from now on for awhile, the singer called me up and asked me to learn 'Tennessee whiskey'.....so I learned it today...….two whole chords...;but theres some double stops and things goin on.....I learned all those too. we have a 9 am practice tomorrow, and I imagine we will play it a bit.
