In light of this, and the one stock bias value I could find online, I decided to go back to the 170r / 14.8w / 39.9mA bias in the SS recitier “channel”.

12w seems to be the accepted limits of a cathode-biased el84, Friedman appears to have designed the amp around 16-17w.

With this arrangement, I’ll have a pretty standard 12w when tube-rectified, and hot-like-intended 15w when SS-rectified. Two different sand boxes to play in...and I reckon I’ll develop some real-world experience with tube wear and limits :).

I’m cleaning up my work area, and took one last shot before some stuff when in the trash:

Happy New Year, and Thanks, again, for all your help and insight!

And like any good modern serial, a preview from Vol. 4

Since I didn’t have a bunch of troubleshooting like I thought, I ended up with extra time left over, and got the case and cab husks together.

Still have a bunch of work to do, and am having trouble figuring out hardware for the look I want, but I wasn’t expecting to even have this much done by the time I had to go back to work.

Hello dude, I’m from Brazil and I have problem with my pt-20. So, how many ohms have the resistor “r11”?

The one in mine is 470r.
Are you trying to build one, or do you have a real one?
What’s the problem? That doesn’t seem like a component that would be likely to fail.

    HOLY CRAP!
If that's your first build (or even fifth or sixth) fantastic job and very nice work!

Hey! Nice build. Can you share the schematic with us?

Sorry, man, the schematic is not mine to give away.

Not trying to be a selfish jerk. It’s just that a friend took a risk at screwing over their friend by giving it to me. Giving it to someone I don’t know would be screwing my friend over.

If you can come up with the schematic somehow, I’d gladly share the build docs with you to make building your own easier.

How about pics of the amp with the cabs finished and tolexed (or tweeded)? :)

I got the covering done earlier in the year, but still haven’t made up a faceplate and head cage for it yet.

The covering is dyed tent canvas, and the grill cloth is bamboo window blind. The hardware is stuff I cobbled together from local stores and Etsy. I’m going for a WWII Imperial Army-Issue vibe.

It’s by far the amp I spend the most time making noise through.

    Good looking and unusual motif!

It's funny how building an amp yourself makes it sound just a little better than an otherwise identical one you bought. :)
