Oh my... I'd forgotten all about this song.. I'm a little moist of eye..
I used to sing and play this when I was solo gigging with (my old acoustic). It was part of a repertoire that I rolled out on Thursday/Friday nights at local bars. I also always seemed to end up playing it in the wee small hours after parties or barbecues.
I'm glad you posted this Sue, because I do have the original sheet music somewhere.. I'm going to relearn it and play..
That's cool, I'm going to try to learn it. Great tune!
Thank you! I thought this was going to be Jerry Jeff Walker's "That Old Beat Up Guitar" from around the same time, but I liked this almost as much.
John Denver's music is a national treasure. The man had so many truly great songs and this is one of my favorites.
Wow We had both his Greatest Hits albums as a kid and watched all his TV specials and that one got by me. thanks for posting!!!!
I miss him and listen to him often. His clan "Deutshendorf" (not sure if I spelled right) is congregated around Corn, Oklahoma, and I went to school with some of them growing up.
He also lived near us when we lived in Colorado Springs.
His variety shows are on YouTube. I really like the Aspen Christmas one - a wholesome celebration not often seen today - and shows him in his favorite place, The Rockies.
Thanks for that.
Wow. His music is some of my all time favorites. I learned to play 'This Old Guitar' on a Martin D-28 I had in the 1970's. Great song.
A classic, both John and guitar.
