In HAMLET, Shakespeare posed man's greatest dilemma:

"To funk or not to funk, that is the question when I hold my Stratocaster."

What scholars have determined Shakespeare meant by "not to funk" was "to rock." So the question is:

To funk or to rock on a Stratocaster. That is the question.

I'm going to be honest. The Tele, the Les Paul, the SG...they are the rock guitars. The Stratocaster is for funk. Nile Rodgers, Ernie Isley...they prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Oh, sure Stevie Ray or Clapton or Gilmour rock on a Strat...but they could have done that on a Tele (look at what Page did on his Telecaster).

So what do you say? Is the Stratocaster thee funk guitar or thee rock guitar?

It was made with the mission statement to cover country first an everything else as well.

So I guess there's no or... it's like asking if you should use your Swiss Army Knife to open cans or saw through branches.

I'm all for rock though, I can't play any good funk ;)

It's both. It's everything. It's whatever you want it to be. I play a lot of funk, but I think the great think about Strats are that they're so versatile. It's never an either/or situation.

Edit: Oh right, I forgot. You were the one who started the thread telling people they couldn't call their guitars Strats if they didn't have 3 single coils. Then something about Oreos. Is this another troll thread?

    :)

    Great analogy. Funny, too.

(And for your info, Swiss Army knives first order of business is to trim toenails.)

But let's just say it is.

To funk or not to funk...that is the question.

    Right behind you...
Depends on who is playing it. When Blackmore plays it, it's a rock guitar. When Jimmy Nolen plays it, it's a funk guitar. When Eddie Hazel plays it, it's both.

If its a white strat, its rock. If its a colored strat, its funk.

I can't help funking around when I hold my Strats. The Tele's chunky squareness makes it a bit harder for my hips to get hip.

I don't know if you meant it that way, but this post reads a bit...um...off color, if you will.

You didn't used to have to decide. As I have said before, there was a time when funk and rock were bros and hung out and did stuff together. No idea whether there was a disagreement but they stopped that and started ignoring each other.

IT'S OUR JOB TO GET THEM BACK TOGETHER!!

Just making fun of the racial and musical lines many here have drawn and set in their heads. Jimi and I dont care about race or genres. Heck, Jimi played a white strat.
