I would ask him how old it is & when he bought it. It could well be one of the more recent MIJ ones, though I don't recall seeing one in LPB before. I bought a new one in 2010 & it didn't have a serial number. So thanks for that Tokai.....

It looks too new to be a 1980s guitar. And nothing looks obviously fake to me.

Good news, from (at least) 2016 (possibly from 2014 on?) the newer MIJ TST/TTE models are back (with a 6 o_O:confused::D digit serial number on neck heel) with presumably 'first two digits production year reference'.

Thanks! I agree, it looks very new. It looks like there is a serial number on the back of the neck just above the pocket, right where you'd find it on a MIJ Fender. I can't make it out though.

OK, so this serial number is similar to those on the Fender Japans? Great, so we need to see that then. So if felis is right about 2014 (and I'll assume that he is), that leaves around 4 years of production from 2010 when these had no serial numbers? I'm not sure that they sold vast numbers of these so maybe they will turn out to be on the rare side?

The one I had didn't have a bound body, I wonder when they started making those? There was a thread on here a few weeks ago when someone asked for views on the new Japanese Tokais, though I'm afraid I forget who asked the original question

Serials starting from 15xxxx ↔ 17xxxx with Made in Japan underneath.
(I think I also seen serial# starting with 14xxxx, but can't seem to find the photos)

No idea, it's for sale by owner. Ask him.

Looks identical but not the same. The serial number on the one I posted is 160607, just got it from the seller. He thinks it's a 2016 or 2017 model.
