This thing should be a blast. I've been getting into 'ambient' weird pedal-y stuff, this will fit right in. Along with being able to rock the house! Ooo - bridge humbucker! :sneaky:

I had a hard time selecting a guitar. I started out looking at Strats, then drifted away, and back again when I learned of this model. The only thing I know about Radiohead is Karma Police, so I might dig into their discography. I'm guessing I'll like their earlier work. I usually do.

    Plus - white/maple - my fav! :thumb:

Love it. Not familiar with that particular model (or Ed O'Brien for that matter) but white on white with maple is one of my all-time Fender color combos. Pure class, never get tired of it.

That's an interesting pickup configuration. SD '59 in the bridge? That should be thick and juicy as all get-out. Sweetwater is great to do business with.

ON EDIT: Ah, from Radiohead. I knew Johnny greenwood's name, but not Ed's. Does this come with a Sustainiac?

    • Seymour Duncan® JB Jr. humbucking bridge pickup, Texas Special single-coil Stratocaster middle pickup, Fernandes® Sustainer neck pickup

    Yes, with the Sustainer.

Basically it's a MIM Strat with hot rodded electronics and slightly fatter neck (loosely based on the EC model I heard?).

Congrats. Just remember to keep it unplugged when not in use. Beside being a sleeping hazard when plugged in, it runs down the battery. Always have a spare 9V on hand. No battery = no sound.

I had some stuff coming last night from UPS and after a shower & dinner I thought I'd sit on the porch and gleefully wait... But within 5 minutes I was sound asleep & came inside & flopped on the couch. Woke up to my package at the door...

And I'm pumped up about it. That's the only "Artist" model I've considered buyin'. Let me know how you like it.

Does it have active electronics? Just wondering what the extra plates are on the back of the body.

Yes it does, in the sense that the Sustainer will hold any note/chord you strike for as long as you want by generating its' own field. From the Fernandez site:

The FERNANDES SUSTAINERTM is a uniquely designed electronic system that enables the controlled sustain of any single or group of notes within the guitar’s sound range. At your discretion, strings will emit sound at a consistent intensity until stopped, regardless of output and/or location, even if the guitar is not connected to an amplifier!

    circuito-sustainer.gif

The patented FERNANDES SUSTAINERTM system generates a magnetic field causing the strings of the guitar to vibrate.
Poweredby a 9-Volt battery, the interaction of the bridge humbucking pickup(B), the Sustainer Circuit Board(C) and the neck Sustainer Driver pickup(A), projects magnetic pulses that continuously vibrate the strings of the guitar, the same way an amplifier would at extreme volumes, yet totally controlled! The result is infinite sustain and/or feedback using sparkly clean or loud distorted settings without the need for excessive volume or extra outboard gear!
