I made a lot of jewelry like that back in the day ... the White kid making 'Indian' jewelry .
I've been making inexpensive blanking dies for the last 30 years , that would punch out a plain, flat
buckle shape like that . I don't make the expensive tooling that would stamp and form the whole
piece at once , like might be the way that one was made. It might be cast; I can't tell from the picture .
I only make jewelry every couple of years , for Mrs. Dog, these days . Here's a pair of earrings from last year. I started with
half-round silver wire ; the stones are Amazonite. A bracelet and ring set too, while we're at it :thumb: I was what ya call a prefesshunal ;)

I got my leatherwork merit badge in the Boy Scouts, and made a belt. They had blank leather belts to buy in the trading post, and a had clear hard plastic stencil that you used to press the outline of the pattern into the soaked leather. Space at the back for your name, camp, troop number, whatever, so I put my name there.

The key, as I recall was having fresh enough leather and getting it wet enough to take the stampings. Not so wet that it would bounce back too easily, and not too dry or it wouldn't take the stamp at all.

I also use some premade pistol holsters, wrapped the gun in plastic, soaked the leather then used an old toothbrush handle to form the leather around the pistol.

Never had the stamps and mallet, or I might have been tempted to do a little embossing.

Well I finished Mouses strap, he will get it shipped to him when he gets back from vacation. I will let him present it, if he likes it enough.
In the meantime I am starting on another strap. Just challenging myself to see what I can do. Thought I would share some getting started photos. I plan on doing 2 or 3 tones on this one. We will see how it turns out. I got a ways to go.

That is super cool Bodean! You are my kind of guy :thumb:

Now I want to get out my leather working stuff again... I never really did much with it, but I've always loved anything where I'm making something with my hands like that. Woodburning, wood carving, guitar building, you name it. Woodburning and guitar building are what I've done the best with though ;)

Thanks. It is very gratifying. I love using my creative side of the brain. If I don't it could get crusty.
