I especially liked "I don't need no doctor."
I would volunteer for more, but the others on the list are songs I don't know at all. If I get a chance I will listen / look at the tab and see if I think they are doable... that's why I only volunteered for Lay Lady Lay, since at least i know the song....
Claire and I had a bash at Suspicious Minds on New Year's Eve and reckon that, with some cover from actual guitarists, we might be able to get away with it (for the moment we aren't doing the cool riff with the hammer on but are just using strumming to achieve a similar effect). We both agree Maurice would kill it on vocals.
We are also working on rhythm for Won't Back Down.
I'll have another look at the list now.
Ok, songs I know:
I've Got a Woman (in case Simon needs a break - unless it's hard... )
Messin' With The Kid (is is similar to Buddy Guy's version?)
I'll check out Radiohead.
We could use a lead guitar on Won't Back Down, and I've taken myself off rhythm on Red House because I don't think I will be able to do that and sing, too. Surely we can get a few more guitars on that one? I see Simon's down to play both lead and bass . While I find his enthusiasm very inspiring, I don't think we should do that to him.
I've put myself down for vocals on London Calling, but not sure how well I can channel Joe Strummer. I'd certainly do my best, but a man might do better.... We'll need background singers, at any rate (and I can be one of them if we have another lead singer).
I am trying very hard to get my band (JP, Caro and Marc) to come, although I know it's not easy for them.
just booked my hotel so I'm all set! , just waiting on guitar parts and i'll get working on the slide guitar parts
Coincidence that @Mansonienne mentions Won't Back Down in the post before yours!
Cool stuff, Andrea. You're right, bass and lead on Red House could prove difficult. Any takers for either?
@s5tuart and @Groovey – thank you for your kind offers of help on the 'songs with no bassist'. I'm sure we can work something out collectively.
I'll give it a go on bass if no-one else wants to. Only basic root/fifth notes but it'll be in tune and in time (I hope!!!! )
Anyone else is MORE than welcome to take it though....
Missus definitely ain't coming, no help from us on bass parts I'm afraid.
There's still 9.5 weeks to work your magic John!
I still.think she s the best part of you Felix. Sry. Lol. Dang. She rocks. And will.be missed.
If you listen to the original Experience's Red House, it's a somewhat strange bass part. More like a guitarist playing a slow root/fifth root/sixth Chuck Berry thing but on bass. Anyone is welcome to use my bass if they want to take this or any other bass part though.
That said, I'm happy enough to play bass all day.
You know, somewhere in the dim a distant thing that is my memory I seem to recall that the bass part was actually done on a guitar with all the treble rolled off. I'll see if I can find it later this afternoon.
I read that, too. But surely a bass part would add to the song, no?
I put myself down for bass... . but maybe someone else can sing the male part, please?
I also took myself off rhythm and put my name down for bass on Messin With The Kid. There's the rhythm part up for grabs now. I believe that @Groovey will play bass on I Don't Need No Doctor....
I'll fill in for the rhythm on Messin - but I'm not sure it needs much.
I can probably do bass on Holiday, but not sure if I can pull off a bass solo
If it's not too late, Marc and I would be more than happy to be with you in London.
Please let us know if it's ok for the studio and the indian night
I'll check the setlist asap to see what we need to work on.
Talk to you soon !
