My 62 Strat has the stamped neck date upside down with the truss rod going through the middle of it. Anyone else seen one like that ?

It had never occurred to me that neck dates could be a right way up or a wrong way up. It doesn't matter, does it? Both are common, unless I've been missing something all these years.

Thanks for finding that ! Yes mines left handed. I've seen a lot of neck dates, both left hand and right, but thats the only other one I've ever seen upside down. Must have been something they did only in September of 1962 ? It seems to suggest they installed the truss rod after stamping the necks.

I've never seen that on a '60s fender. I've seen a couple of '56s with an upside-down date. It must be super rare

Some pics. Old refin in '84 when I acquired it. The body had been stripped back to the wood as was the fashion. I think it was Lake placid Blue originally ! Some overspray on back of neck. Quartersawn neck ?

The date is the right way up, on an upside down guitar.

What probably happened was it was in a stack of righties when it got stamped.
Were those hand stamped or machine stamped?
