    Hi guys,

am buying my first strat - as in title. It's a 2013 shell pink AVRI '56, with the right case and all the accessories, but the serial number on the metal plate at the back links to a fender bass on their search: V1313986. Is the guitar a fake? How can I check this?

    Cheers
    Alex

    Welcome to the forum Alex!

You have to check with Fender, AVRI serial numbers are usually not in the database......

Do you have photos to help us authenticate it? It could be 100% fake....there is a list of like over 50 things I look for and it would take me a long time to educate you.....best to show photos....

EDIT - SOLVED - THE OP misread the serial number at first....V1313936 is LEGIT as a Shell Pink AVRI '56

    Hi,

thanks for the really quick response! The shop selling it has loads of really detailed photos up here: 31.jpg 33.jpg 45.jpg 52.jpg 58.jpg

My gut tells me its real, as getting all the parts, accessories and the case together seems like it wouldn't be worth faking it, but I want to be sure.

    Kind regards,
    Alex

It could have a fake serial number to hide the fact it's stolen....

I would email consumerrelations@fender.com and inform them the serial number seems to also match a Jazz Bass.....sometimes AVRI serial numbers get used more than once, very rarely.....

    It certainly looks authentic.....

Will do! I really hope it's not stolen. Do you know anywhere else on the body to look for that a serial number to see if it doesn't add upp?

There won't be any other place, there may be neck pocket stamps/dates and neck heel stamps/dates but no S/N......

Check your serial number again on the neck plate in the photos buddy, just noticed something! :) Your last 2 digits are NOT 86, they're 36

    V1313936

Which comes back as a Shell Pink AVRI '56! You're good to go!! Just a misread.....

Ok, have shot an email off to fender, will see what they say. Thanks for the pointers.

*edit* just saw your post, that's brilliant!

It's real. Don't worry about it being stolen. Millions of guitars are bought and sold.

Shell pink AVRI - absolutely gorgeous!

    I'd love one like that.

Beautiful guitar! I do see one problem though, they did not give you enough case candy/paperwork with that guitar. You got ripped off ;)

Hah! Fender really did go all out with recreating the vintage paperwork on the AV series.

To the OP - beautiful guitar!

That thing looks out of the box, ‘real’ new old stock standard. Beautiful.

Yeah, I've been looking for vintage spec shell pink strat for ages after testing a custom shop with pretty much the same specs and falling in love with it a couple years ago. Really lucky to find this one.

Finally got it. It plays so ridiculously well compared to my old sg. Why do fender not do vintage radius and soft v necks anymore? So good.

That colour combo (shell pink + maple) is the stuff of dreams for me.

I recently very nearly bought a CS tomatillo strat in the same colour, but the relicing turned me off when I saw it in the flesh, plus the truss rod adustment was at the heel which I don't like. I realise that the latter makes it more 'vintage' but seems like a bad idea on an expensive guitar.
