I personally like the black with white pu covers and control knobs. It’s a nice contrast.

I thin it depends entirely on which Strat we're talking about. My preferences are as follows:

Small headstock, maple neck - parchment.

Small headstock, rosewood neck - mint green.

Large headstock - parchment or black.

I will also tolerate white or cream pearloid on red ONLY (but I wouldn't have one myself).

I also like torty, but on Oly White and rosewood ONLY.

This is the first time I have read that the PG color was dependent on headstock size.

Can I get on this thread... I'm going to change the bridge pickup on my strat this weekend... I have a White (slightly faded) pickguard I'm thinking of putting on... should I keep black pickguard or go with white:

Yes white is cool. I come from white (mint) en now i have black and white ages pu&control knobs.I think to do covering the humbucker in the back.
I just put it on the strings.

For me the answer is always mint green, with a rosewood fretboard...

    Hi Leonard,
    Welcome to the forum.
As a fellow-Dutchman, who's joined fairly recently --about a year ago-- I can tell you this forum is full of information, ranging from the absolutely essential to the rather outlandish geek-only stuff. And it's full of opinions, for which you will have to learn to apply your own Category-system.

As to my opinion on your question: I prefer guitars with no pickguard at all, but since most strats do not offer that option I like my pickguards to be as simple as possible. One-ply black, Or 3-ply white-black-white.
Of course it all depends on the rest of the guitar. Some look just stunning with a red-ish celluloid tortoise guard, which --on its own-- I consider one of the most hideous pickguard options around.
I'm also colourblind so I regularly mistake a minty green or pale pink one for a white.
(try to play snooker with that condition!)

Black on burst looks more natural. White on a burst ruins the flow.

There are no ugly pick guards, only ugly pick guard guitar combinations.
I like all three of those.
