What's your favorite tape delay pedal?

I once had a Carbon Copy Analog Delay when I was last gigging a few years ago, and I liked it well enough.
Now I seek a tape echo emulation with nice murky repeats and some degradation. Stereo capability not required. Don't need tap tempo...the simpler (the fewer knobs,) the better. :D
I'm intrigued by the Dunlop EP103 but haven't tried one yet. Also intrigued by the rec level (preamp) knob on the Belle Epoch.
    Other recommendations?

Pretty good discussion of real tape echo compared to a few highly rated digital echo pedals.

Yep, thanks. I watch a fair amount of That Pedal Show.
Problem is, I usually can't sit still for the length of their videos...

Tape delay is my favorite setting on the TC Flashback. I don't have much experience with others.

the latest digitech Obscura delays have a few emulation settings including tape, plus, a Degrade knob where you can control the amount of imperfection in each mode eg wow and flutter etc

Thanks! I listened to a few demos...not bad at all.
I'm leaning toward the Belle Epoch because of the preamp.

This gets my vote. Lots and lots of toneprints are tape delays, so there's one you'll love. I prefer Dann Huff's Tape Delay

EH Stereo Memory Man is definitely my favorite by far...........also really like the obscura but the SMM is probably the most inspiring pedal I have ever purchased.

    Here
Pete Thorn did a demo of the Strymon El Capistan tape emulator pedal a few years back that just completely blew my mind.

Of you want one with a preamp, the Nocturne Mystery Brain is the way to go.

If I'm not mistaking the voice in the demo, it's our own @TSims1.

Thanks Mr. L! I'd not heard of that particular device before.
Certainly does seem to be Tony Sims.

It's the one I ordered... The next production batch ships this month. They're designed and built by a Rockabilly man over on Gretsch-Talk, so you're also supporting a forum brother with it.

I have a first batch mystery brain.

I wish it had a tap delay adjust. But then I used my re201 for 20+ years and never had one.

You probably already know but its a fantastic pedal. My favourite is the edge of breakup I can get with super reverb. Perfect with boost on and 'abby' button is just enough for extra grit. Covers a lot of ground with boost and abbey alone :)

What it does for my 64 strat is incredible. Twang sweetener and volume. The 64 loves this pedal.

Oh and the tape echo really is spot on just sets the mood. Perfect for any slap back or spacey things. I get a great pink Floyd thing going too.

One punter (audience member ) said to me after a gig " you sound authentic "

I was going to get the Catalinbread Belle Epoch but I passed the Roguestock keyboard audition so every penny is now dedicated to getting a Hammond SK2 organ.....maybe some day....

My trusty and crappy sounding MXR Analog Delay. You want muted delays? It has it! ; -)

But pure simplicity. I've had it since around 1988 and would never sell it.
