What are everyone’s preferences when it comes to pickup type and why?

I realize this is a strat forum, so I imagine standard single coils will be most preferred, but ya never know!

I own all 3 types and love them all, but I’m mostly a modern blues/garage rock player, so I tend to favor the P90s. They just give me the most “meat and potatoes” while still giving me plenty of the edge of a standard single coil.

    Depends on my goals.

If I want sparkly clean or raunchy drive with some edge and dynamics to it, singles.

If I just wanted to melt faces off and say "Screw the dynamics!", high output HBs.........:D

It depends on the music. Some songs sound better with one or the other (I've never owned a guitar with P90's though.)

Totally depends on the song and the humbucker or single coils in question. The bridge single coil in my
Tele sounds nothing like the grey bottom single coil in the bridge of my ‘66 reissue Strat, and neither of those sound anything like the 57/62 in my arvi so...

If I had to choose I’d settle for a Tele with a PAF type humbucker in the neck and that would cover most of the ground I needed...

Single coils for me, P90 is on top of my list.

I've had two fine SSS Strats, but find get along much better with humbuckers. Although I would like to try using a P90 equipped machine.

Which do you prefer: Single Coils, P90s, or Humbuckers?

I like all three for different reasons. Can't pick just one

Overall...humbuckers, because I prefer Gibsons, but, it hangs on the song I want to play.

Even within a type...do you want Trower or Brownie era Clapton? Warren Haynes or Gary Moore?

Definitely all the above. I have guitars with P90s, with Humbuckers, and Single coils and love them all......

    .

    P90s, Tele bridge, Strat neck.
Humbuckers with mods for splitting. Humbuckers lost a lot of the P90 dynamics and tone in trying to fix the noise issue.

This is like choosing between bacon, ham or shau-shige, as my 2 year old says

I'll have some of each, please

I have almost two dozen Fenders, all single coil, and another half dozen Gibsons, all P90 loaded. Same with my Epiphones, all P90s. The only humbucker in the house is in the T5z. They all have their uses.

Gotta have them all. Love my revstar with the p90s. Most of my epiphones have coil splits from the factory. Strats are sss and hss

Love each guitar for its own sounds and personalities

    Single coils.

I love a bright, jangle, trebly, crystal clear tone.
P-90s are too hot, humbuckers are too thick.
