I believe the American special has jumbo frets. So for me, it would come down to whether I liked those.

The 2018 looks like a better 'deal' to me. It's in almost new condition and has the more traditional Tele controls. Might be worth trying to negotiate the price down 50-100 €. Don't let on that you WANT it. :whistling:

They’re very different guitars, I guess it comes down to whether you want a traditional Tele, or something different.

I’d go for the ‘72, but then I’m not a fan of Teles!

I'd go for the Special b/c I am a fan of Teles which "should" have singlecoils.

But yeah, it depends what you want in a Tele.

Personally, I'd go for the 2018, but it is a very subjective choice. The '72 is a completely different ride.

Definitely the 2018 - for the pickups, color, and other features!

Exactly, for someone who is a fan of Teles the 2018 is a no-brainier.

The Special, but I'm a fan of the Special/Performer Series. Lovely necks.

Out of those two the special as the humbuckers in the MIM customs and deluxes are a bit meh...

the original Seth Lover wide range humbuckers are great though, I’d take an original 72 deluxe over pretty much any other tele...

You know, if you play those guitars and pick the one that really speaks to you, you could be playing it for the rest of your life. Put that way, the price difference doesn't matter that much.

It may be neither of those guitars are what you hoped they'd be. The world is full of electric guitars, so you don't have to choose between two. :)

Hi Dave! Welcome to Strat Talk!

Neither guitar seems to be priced better than the other. I can't speak to actual prices your market, but a Mexican '72 Reissue seems to be worth around 75% of a 2018 American Special. The guitars you posted correspond.

Aside from that, go play both guitars if you can. Your playing style and your taste in music may make one stand out above the other. My opinion about them is pretty much worthless to you.

Or, as @simoncroft says, if neither of them blows you away, keep looking.

Is the custom with the humbuckers an MIM guitar? I would go with that, but then I like me some humbuckers. If it’s MIM I think you could do better on the price.
