Why are big rig trucks allowed to use all the lanes now?

Big rigs used to be restricted to the first 2 lanes on the freeways here in California. And with good reason. In the last 2 years or so i see rigs in all lanes. They block traffic and your ability to see ahead. IMG_20171205_105925070.jpg

It's due to lack of enforcement.
I see 18 wheelers in the HOV lane all the time here.
You know, the lane plainly marked "HOV" and "Trucks Use Right 2 Lanes".

No law is worth the toilet paper it's written on if the cops can't be bothered to enforce it.

    This is the definitive answer.
    Not enough officers...
    Too many people...
    Not enough courts...
    Too many people...
    Too many trucks
    Too many people...

No,its not lack of cops. The chp has speed traps on this stretch.I think the law has been relaxed or something. This trend started just a few yrs ago.If you look at the pic just imagine a third truck and you get the idea.Last nite there were 2 trucks in each slow lane and a very slow truck in the third lane...going uphill.

I drive in Dallas. The newer highway designs across the city are efficient but make it nearly impossible for a traffic cop to stop a motorist without endangering hundreds of lives in the process. So, they don't make traffic stops. Speed limit is on the honor system. Lots of people driving 100mph.

The 405 and 101 here, have many built in hideouts for cops.

It's not a matter of hideouts, it's a matter of offenders driving so fast and traffic being so heavy that it would be close to impossible to make a stop.

I have a class A CDL and have driven "big rigs" in the past. We wouldn't be over over in the passing lane if it wasn't for the morons who putt along clogging up the travel lanes. If you're not going to go with the pace of traffic (and getting passed by large vehicles), get off the road. Mind you, one is only to be using the left lane to pass be it in a "big rig" or a car. I always stayed to the right unless I had to pass someone. In my car I'm always passing someone so I am mostly in the left lane the entire time. :thumb:

In the UK, I assume that the same cameras that enforce speed limits also enforce the rule about lorries in the 3rd lane. Are these not common on US freeways?

Nope. We would have to overthrow the tyrants if they put up those cameras.

A few years ago, many municipalities in Texas put up cameras to deter motorists from driving through intersections when the light was red. Public uproar put an end to the practice within maybe three years.

So you can get your $59 Gibson Maestro SG pack* delivered to your door with free shipping. But don't worry, soon they will knock down all the empty store fronts to add more lanes.

    .

The way the California freeways are designed with the right lane always peeling off to exits so you are constantly moving and merging into the lane to the left to stay on the freeway causes more issues for those trucks.

How did this public uproar manifest itself? I'm not being argumentative here, I'm genuinely curious about how you guys got the cameras removed when that has never seemed a viable option here. Our roads are covered in speed cameras of many different types.

"You are going to get voted out of office next term if you do not get those cameras out of our LIBERTY!!"

    Works pretty well.

But is it really about "liberty"? Plenty of people in this thread feel that big trucks using all the lanes infringes their liberty & are complaining about it. And yet cameras seem to be the only way to stop this happening - unless I'm missing something?
