Fender changed from slab to laminate in 62/3 because Leo feared that differential expansion with slab boards might be a problem. But it wasn't, both seem to work equally well. Most early 60s copies are slab boards, Tokai is one of the few exceptions'.

Yep, that wasn't good. But no mass shootings. Well there was one, at Dunblane in 1996 but that problem was dealt with by increasing gun control. That's worked a lot better than letting the NRA decide what to do. It hasn't happened since.
