I used to stop in Wisner on my motorcycle to gas up and take a break. it's nice that they have the 4 lane going through all of those little towns now. but it seems to have taken something from the little towns along the way.

I moved back to Baton Rouge(my hometown) in '87. and I moved up here to Minnesota in '92. we got married in '93. we go to Baton Rouge every year to see my family. we usually stay the night in Ruston going down and coming back up. I take I-20 to Rayville and head south through Natchez and on into just north of Baton Rouge off of Hwy 61.

I never went to any of the stores in Monroe/West Monroe. I had "Haymaker's Guitar Store" there in Ruston. I met those guys when I first moved to Ruston in '75. matter of fact, Piney Hills was in the same location as that old store the last time that I was in Ruston. I'm not sure when we'll be back through there. I let my wife decide when we go down that way. we have about 2 feet of snow on the ground up here and I'm ready to head South now. ha ha

yeah, you're only 30 miles or so from Ruston. I lived there for 12 years(75-87). I hope that he's not going out of business. he's the only guitar store around for miles.

ha ha oh, I'm not looking for anything in particular. I just like to look at guitars.  Piney Hills Music is in Ruston. the owner's name is Nick Goff. the last time that I was in Ruston, he moved his shop to the downtown area. he owns most of the buildings there. so, it's no big deal for him to move. I'm not even sure what brands of guitars he handles anymore. I can't catch him open when I'm in town.

that place over in West Monroe sounds pretty cool. do you or can you get an address ? I just might have to stop in the next time that I'm through that way. have you been to Piney Hills Music in Ruston ? oh yeah, are you still looking for a hollowbody ? Nick might have one there.

glad to hear that your mom is doing better. I lost my dad to lung cancer in Aug '09.
rustiness goes away with practice. I see that that guy in Rayville closed his shop. or did he relocate somewhere else ? welcome back. glad to have you back around.

Hey suthrn_blu_Sman, check out this from Stew Mac:
      Basic Setup Kit at Stewart-MacDonald

You won't be disappointed in the high quality of the tools because yes, they are pricey. But you know, you get what you pay for. I have the kit and use it often.

that store in Natchez sounds interesting. of course, by the time I get to Natchez, I'm ready to be at momma and daddy's house. my wife closes her eyes. ha ha me and old Hwy 61 are very old friends. ;o) please let me know if you remember where that store is. I might have to stop in. thanks. brent

      hi Earl,
hmmm when I was in there, he had alot more inventory than just a few guitars. when I talked to him, it sounded like the area could/would be able to support a small shop. if I'm in the area when we (my family and I) make our yearly trip to Baton Rouge, I may stop in to see how he's doing. is there a guitar store close to where you live or is Natchez the closest spot ? I imagine that you go to the stores in the Monroe area ? I've met the guy in Ruston, too. brent

hi Earl. I play alot of the old stuff like Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson, and things that I've written. I started playing in 1966.
have you ever been to that guitar store in Rayville ? I've stopped in there just after he opened a few years ago. he seemed like a nice guy. is he still in business ? brent

as I said earlier, I lived in Ruston for a while. when I went home to Baton Rouge, I'd take I-20 to Rayville and head south. so, Hwy 15 is very familiar to me. I like the 4 lane that they have going through there now. I had some good friends that lived in Winnsboro. but I think that they have moved away. nice to meet you. brent
