    It is absolutely no different than setting string action on any other guitar. The nut is set for proper action at the 1st fret, and the saddles are set for proper action at the last fret. Don't over think it. It's really just that easy.

    It's so there will be enough tension to keep the pickup from flopping around, which can be a problem with long legged humbuckers.

    I generally just work with whatever pickups are in the guitar. I only have 2 guitars (out of 8) that do not have the stock pickups.

    It looks to be a Squier Standard series, so my guess would be no. Unless you can get pics of the underside of the pickups, it's virtually impossible to tell what they are.

    Can't tell what the pickups are from one low res pic. Pretty sure you could just buy a set of used SD Hot Rails for less than $200.
