Wet sponges suck imo and trial and error. Brass wool is so much more effective and does not suck nearly the amount of heat out of a tip a damp sponge does.

If you can find a chisel tip, get one, or more if available. 1/8" wide is useful for nearly everything including pot backs. A 1/4" is great for pot backs. Think I have three different widths between two 40 watt irons I use. Two irons I keep different tips in.
