    No Freaking Hum!

I've had the opposite experience; playing a gig in a bar that was so incredibly noisy that it was impossible to play single coils without a loud "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" coming through even a very clean amp. Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

ALERT - ALERT - ALERT I tested a MIM strat I have, and the results are SHOCKING!: I can hear faint tapping on my middle pickup when the switch is on the bridge pickup.

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

You can try cleaning the switch too. Make sure the switch is the actual problem before you change it.

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

Ha! Here's what I am trying to prove: If the bridge pickup is disconnected from the switch, and the switch is in the middle position, and you hear the bridge pickup when tapped, this suggests the tapping on the bridge is being picked up by the coil in the middle pickup. The pickup cross talk...

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

The middle pickup sounds loudly when tapped even though the lead is disconnected? This makes no sense.

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

"Also: In the bridge+middle position and tapping, I get the middle pickup at regular volume, and the bridge at a quieter volume." I don't understand; if the middle pickup is disconnected why would you hear it, but not the bridge, when the switch is in the M + B position?

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

With the middle pickup hot lead disconnected from the switch, and the switch in the middle pickup position, you hear this?: "I do--with the middle being the loudest and the neck and bridge being quieter."

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

While the pickguard is off; disconnect the middle from the switch, place the switch in the bridge only position, tap the middle pickup and tell us what you hear.

Question about all pickups having at least a little signal . . .

one way to test for this: place switch in bridge position and tap the neck pickup with a screwdriver, then put the switch to the middle pickup and tap the neck pickup with a screwdriver; is the volume of the taps the same?
