    Hit the Rhodes, Jack

Yes, It it works on the same principle as an electric guitar but uses tines instead of strings in front of the pickups. A Hammond organ works on this principle too only using rotating discs with notches in them called tonewheels in front of the pickups to produce the sound. both instruments are...

    Hit the Rhodes, Jack

Eighty eight keys in a Rhodes is ridiculous. The "sweet spot" of the instrument is the midrange. The ideal IMHO would be sixty one keys (from C to shiining C) like an organ. So much in manufacturing has to do with marketing concerns.

Not good---lots of horror stories about these. No sound like it though.

    Hit the Rhodes, Jack

I used to live in a second story apt in the early seventies. I packed that sucker up and down two flights of stairs going to and from gigs (plus a Fender twin). Never again!

The Greatest Rock Singer - EVER!

"The Greatest"? I don't know. That is subjective but Linda Ronstadt has to be up there for me. Her instrument/ talent/training/versatility/longevity. Wish her well in her struggles now. Not easy.

    Jazz Standard cover....

It is always welcome to hear a jazz guitarist who is not afraid to let his guitar "sound like a guitar". Beautiful reading of this Gershwin classic. Please post more. PS: Loved the double stops at the end.

    Your worst misconception regarding strats

After hearing the eight bar intro of "Albert's Shuffle" played by Mike Bloomfield on his Les Paul I thought "no tone on ANY instrument could be THAT expressive. Dunno, maybe I still feel that way. (maybe it was just him).

Hillsboro for me. I bet we know some of the same people. You play the blues?

    Ray Charles' "Mary Ann"

I realize that this is primarily a discussion forum for the famed Stratocaster electric guitar but after having recieved a fair amount of favorable criticism and encouragement on the last video I posted, I decided to post another one. Recorded this today. A bit of blues improv loosely based on...

    alternate pickup wiring

Thanks so much. This sounds like a more viable option. (Really wanted to have that blending capability, though).

Thank you so much for this info. I will forget about this, then.

    alternate pickup wiring

After some thought I am considering wiring the pickups on my upcoming partsacster to work like the drawbars on a Hammond organ, that is: eliminating the selector swich and tone pots and assigning the three knobs to be volume controls for the three respective pickups. That would give me blending...

    Cheap mods for better tone.

Thank you for the reply. As a piano technician for close to forty years, I am a "hands on" guy and very interested in knowing the "tool" (the guitar) with which I am working. I used to think that tone was in the brain and the hands but have come around to thinking that the tone is inherent in...

Worth working with, then? I'm beginning to think so. PS: Yes, positively it is a laminate body. I count about nineteen laminations. Being it is Korean, as I have learned, it is probably made in the Samick piano factory and I am guessing (by the number of laminations) that it was probably made...

    Cheap mods for better tone.

My instrument is a 50th Anniversary Korean strat with a plywood body. While I don't hate it (the neck is the best part) it is not an instrument that is worth sinking a lot of money into. I would like to improve the tone a bit if possible. I believe that I am losing energy from poor string...
